How to: Convert an unsecured Access 1.x or 2.0 database to Access 7.0.
Solution:
Backup the database to convert. Select 'Database Utilities' from the 'Tools' menu and select 'Convert Database...'. Then specify the database to convert and a name for the converted copy, and click 'Save'.
1) Backup the database to convert.
2) If the database to convert contains links to external tables, make sure the external tables are in the same folder when they were linked.
NOTE 1: If Access cannot find the external tables, the associated table properties defined in the database being converted will be lost. However, after the database is converted, the external tables can be moved and then re-linked using the Linked Table Manager.
NOTE 2: Converting a database with links to external tables does not convert the external tables.
3) Do one of the following:
a) Start Access if it is not started.
b) If Access 7.0 already starts, click 'Microsoft Access' on the taskbar to switch to it.
4) Make sure the database to convert is closed.
NOTE: In a multi-user environment, have all users close the database.
5) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Database Utilities'. (A submenu appears.)
6) Select 'Convert Database...'. (The Database to Convert From dialog box appears.)
7) Select the drive where the desired database is located from the 'Look in' drop-down list.
8) Select the folder containing the database to convert from the 'Look in' list box. (The database file is displayed.)
NOTE: If the file is in a subfolder, continue selecting folders until the file is displayed.
